About Us

Welcome to the Launceston Jazz Club

Our Club aims to present various types of jazz  to our members and the public and also to encourage and promote young jazz musicians.  Gigs are held monthly in the convivial atmosphere of the Royal Oak Hotel on the corner of Brisbane and Tamar Streets, Launceston.   Other jazz activities and events are also enjoyed by our members.

The Bruny Island New Orleans Jazz Band entertained members aboard the Tamar Odyssey on a recent Tamar River cruise.

The Monthly Gig
This is normally held on the last Tuesday of the month, however the day can vary depending on the availability of bands.  Enthusiasts can either book for dinner and background jazz at 6.30 pm or the feature band/artist at 8.00 pm.  Dinner and drinks can be ordered from the Bistro Bar.   The feature band/artist may be from Tasmania, mainland Australia or overseas.

Seating is at small tables and it is strongly recommended that a table be booked by ringing the Royal Oak Hotel on (03) 6331 5346.

Club members receive a 20% discount for meals at the Royal Oak Hotel at any time, not just at gigs.

"I just LOVE playing those older styles of jazz and have played everything from Ragtime and New Orleans style, through Chicago and Kansas City styles, the US West Coast stylings of Lu Watters and Turk Murphy etc., and on up to the mainstream era of Bobby Hackett and Ruby Braff".....Eric Holroyd
