DADDY PLAYS THE HORN – Jazz duo

Daddy Plays the Horn performs a variety of well known jazz standards from a range of styles including Swing, Be-bop, Blues and Latin.

Rob Batters and Carl Bulow have been playing and performing together off and on since meeting in 1995, at the University of Tasmania, whilst completing Music Degrees. Since then they have both become fathers and for the last 5 years Rob has been living at the other end of the state whilst Carl has returned to University, making more then the occasional ‘jam’ impossible. Collectively they can boast over 30 years experience performing music in a wide variety of environments from the Army big-band to a ‘Reggae’ combo, both Rob and Carl having performed internationally.

Rob and Carl have drawn inspiration from their fatherhood experiences and are very excited about playing together again, putting new slants on some of the most well known and grooviest jazz standards, such as, Take 5, Summertime, Well You Needn’t, Night and Day ,So What and many more classics.

ST JOE'S BIG BAND

Saint Joe's Big Band performs great jazz, Latin and swing music, the type made famous by legends such as Miller, Ellington and Basie, through to current jazz composers.

St Joe's has an average line up of 18 musicians including vocals, trumpets, saxophones, trombones and rhythm section and can provide music for most occasions including weddings, conferences, formal balls and dinners, award ceremonies, parties and festivals.

History

St Joe's is recognised as Australia's oldest band organization, which began life as St Joseph's Total Abstinence Society, a temperance organization attached to St Joseph's Church where the Church of The Apostles now stands in Margaret Street Launceston. The original members were drawn from the catholic community and the 96th Regiment, then stationed in Launceston. Over the last 160 years St Joe's has continued to evolve and in 1988 became a big band drawing musicians from all ages and walks of life who share a common love of jazz.
